Start your own blog

A blog is basically a journal or diary that is on the internet. My findings reveals that blogs were basically places for people to write their day-to-day activities. This little everyday affair later blossomed and they gained a following and the blog industry was born.

Blogging, therefore, means the act of writing a blog. Blogging offers bloggers a platform to share their knowledge with the world. Do you have a passion?

Why? You ask….

Because when you write about what you love, it makes the process of beginning a successful blog so easy and delightful.

So how do you begin or start a blog? Good question. Continue reading as I share with you how easy it is to begin your own blog.

What is a niche? A niche or niche marketing simply means concentrating all your marketing efforts on a small specific and well defined segment of the population.

No, niches do not exist. It is the duty of you the entrepreneur to create the niche by first identifying the needs, wants and requirements that are being addressed poorly or not all by other firms, and thus developing and delivering goods or services to satisfy them. It does not have to be new; it could b e an old idea. All you need is take it and do it better.

As a business strategy, it can be likened to aspiring to becoming a BIG fish in a small pond rather than becoming a SMALL fish in a big pond.

It is also vitally important that you focus your blogging business on what you love, doing so without thinking about monetary rewards.

This may seem shocking to many, but as have often been said, if you love what you do the money will come.

I know. Your must be wondering what a domain name is. Easy, that is why you are here. The essence of this tutorial is to thoroughly equip you.

Simply, a domain name is the key part of your online address. For your visitor to be able to locate or identify your blog online, you must have an address. It is similar to the fact that you live in a particular street in a particular town/city in a particular country. In the same vein, you must also have your blog located somewhere on the internet space.

So, your domain name is what your visitor will use to find you easily on the web. For example, my domain name is: www.toritsejukebi.com.

Your domain name is unique to you; the moment you have registered it, no one else can register it as long as you continue to renew and use it.

However, please take note of the following important points:

    1. Use easy to remember name. The benefit? It ensures your visitors can find you with ease.
    2. Use dot.com. This is much better and what is more, people are more familiar with dot.com.
    3. Brand yourself. Use your personal name if you want to ensure that nobody takes your name.
    4. Do you want to sell your blog? If your long term objective is to sell your blog, then, don’t use your personal name. It might constitute a hindrance.

Now that you have determined your domain name and it’s availability, get it registered and get a host.

Don’t worry, I will explain. A web host is simply the company that will store all of the files for your blog and delivers them to the user when they type in your domain name on their browser.

A web host is a necessity if you must have a blog; it is inevitable.

There are varieties of hosting companies on the internet, such as Hostgator, Bluehost, e.t.c. No, I don’t get anything from recommending these companies, but they are good. However, before you decide to use any of them, do your due diligence.

I must advice you must choose your webhost carefully, for if you choose a bad one it can adversely affect your business.

What is WordPress and why wordpress?

WordPress is an online, open source website creation tool. It does not require a knowledge of programming language. It is propably the easiest and most powerful blogging and website content management system [CMS} in existence today.

So why do I recommend WordPress?

    1. It is easy to use.
    2. It is flexible; enough for just anything you desire to do.

According to a recent survey, WordPress powers 22.5% of all websites on the internet. That is obviously huge, and speaks volume. That is what I use. It is also used by the following notable organizations:

  1. Time Magazine
  2. Google
  3. CNN
  4. The New York Times
  5. Ebay.

Basically, a theme controls the presentation of contents in your blog. According to WordPress.org Theme Directory, a theme changes the design of your website, often including it’s layout. Changing your theme changes how your site looks on the front-end, that is, what a visitor sees when they browse to your site.

Themes can have different layouts, such as static or responsive, using one column, two or three. It can display content anywhere you want it, and so many other functions.

Now that you know a theme is, which option should you choose, a custom theme or free theme? Well….

I highly recommend you buy a custom theme. I don’t recommend free theme. Why?

Because a free theme depicts your blog as unprofessional. So? Buy a custom theme, it is more professional.

With the purchase of a custom theme, you should be able to set up your page and it’s layout. These are the basic things you should include:

{a} About Me

{b} Contact Page

{c} Privacy Page

{d} Welcome Page.

Now that your blog is set and running, don’t waste time as some do, start publishing content. Why content?

Because, as it is often said, which I have come to appreciate and agree with completely, content is king. But besides being king, let’s face it, how can visitors be on your blog if there is nothing in it for them?

Remember, your objective is to teach and share knowledge.
